Just to clarify: this land Georgia is called only for a good part of the planet and not for Kartvelebi, Georgia. Kartlos, considered the father of all Georgians, is the one who suggested the name to this country. I leave it to historians, anthropologists, linguists and geeks of the web to find out why some call Georgia, other Gürcistan, others Gruzija.
But back to Kaka. Today we traveled a lot and fortunately my field of vision was not able to tell if the sound barrier was achievable by the engine of the SUV, certainly rigged. But Kaka, we have now discovered to have become happily grandfather a few days (40 years) has seen fit to bring home some fresh trout with his little family. La strada che porta nella regione di Samtskhe-Javakheti attraversa Gori, città pesantemente bombardata lo scorso anno e così, tra un sorpasso e l’altro, iniziamo a vedere gli insediamenti degli sfollati (che sarebbe meglio chiamare profughi). Domani dedicheremo tutta la giornata a visitare i progetti di Caritas Georgia che li riguardano, ma una foto ve la regalo in anticipo. Non servono commenti.
Finalmente arriviamo ad Arali, villaggio di 800 famiglie (qui gli abitanti non si contano), tipicamente post-sovietico. La miniera di carbone, le industrie, i caseifici, tutte le attività produttive sono fallite il giorno dopo l’indipendenza dall’URSS (Natale 1991) e così la gente sopravvive con i frutti della terra. Cavoli, patate e un po’ d’uva (che qui non manca!) servono per riempire la pancia e per guadagnare pochi lari dopo un estenuante viaggio verso la capitale. L’assistenza sanitaria è un optional per pochi: visita, farmaci, esami sono sempre a pagamento e 30 € di pensione al mese sono davvero una miseria.
